So an interesting end to a VERY long week.
We have had so many successes and that’s what we have to focus on. I decided on Wednesday that I was going to reflect on all the reasons I love my job and why it’s so great. That hasn’t changed, but some of the reasons have!
We have had (most of) another successful round of BISS Unplugged even though Stephen couldn’t be here to join us. A real testament to the pre-planning and organising as well as the beauty of its simplicity. Hopefully we will be able to reschedule soon so that those performers will be able to showcase their talents which have been very hard won.
Stephen and I spent a long time musing about how we can use the Chatter Box area as a performance space and whether we could use it for some very low-key performances at break times. Things are definitely happening and the last time I spoke with Stephen, he was telling me that the practice rooms are full every break and lunch time with children practising their pieces ready to perform. Impressively, not just individuals but also groups. The power of music. We now have a piano freely available. On several occasions have I walked through and seen/heard the odd person playing and clearly enjoying the experience. One would expect that primary children wouldn’t have the maturity to respect it, instead messing around and damaging it. Not our children. Our children ask to come and play for nobody other than themselves. Just this week, someone told me that the lovely music I could hear was one of our Y2s playing. So I wandered down and just sat listening. It was beautiful. I know this particular student well and, although I knew they played the piano, I didn’t realise quite how well. In case this wasn’t a beautiful experience in itself, one of our Nursery classes were walking past after swimming. They decided to come and sit and listen too. A perfect audience of 3 and 4 year olds. Again, we can learn a lot from our youngest students. Heart warming!
Then today, we had the ‘excitement’ of the testing. Testing the whole school within the school day was no mean feat. We had already made the call to start with our youngest and they were simply marvellous! Despite the fact that it was a little chaotic and there was some waiting around, they were a real credit to everyone involved with them. These past two plus years have taught us too many things about ourselves and each other to quantify, but the one thing I am certain of is our capacity to work together and achieve success. Our students are the ‘product’ of all that hard work and determination and I am oh so proud.
I’m very dehydrated and a little sunburned after spending the day outside marshalling so I shall sign off now and wish you all a Happy Friday.
Music today is Silver Lining by Rilo Kiley from the ‘Haim Radio’ playlist and I’m going to head home and think about all the silver linings we have at the moment.
